Vegan Options at Wawa

Vegan food and health are becoming increasingly important to consumers, but despite the growth in vegan products, this trend is outpacing sales. Euromonitor International found that although the number of people reducing their meat intake increased by 9% between 2011 and 2016, only 3.1% said they intended to remove all animal products from their diets within the next 12 months.

Vegans are becoming increasingly vocal about their purchasing power – which they say is not being met by the market. They argue retailers are far too focused on appealing to carnivores rather than vegans and vegetarians, or flexitarians for that matter.

We’ve seen some vegan products in stores around us but there’s still room for improvement. Wawa is a convenience store that will have vegan-friendly food for late 2021. They are looking to sell products that can compete with Starbucks, Taco Bell, and Panda Express.

The company’s most famous product is their hoagies, which are sub sandwiches. They also have prepared foods such as fresh fruit, soup of the day, and coffee. Some locations even sell craft beers! One can expect to find bubble tea at some locations too. One interesting fact about Wawa is that you can order online and pick it up at the location of your choice. All their food is fresh, made on-site daily.

Wawa has contributed to the communities they are located in by creating jobs for their employees and giving back to their local communities with contributions through programs like Fuel Good which helps raise money to support local school district food programs. Wawa also gives back through their charity Playworks which helps ensure children K-12 can play safely at recess and physical education time to improve their health, academic success, and overall enjoyment of school.

Everything Vegan at Wawa (2023)

The vegan menu at Wawa started with the aim of providing more vegan options to customers. It took Everything Vegan approximately four months to complete this project. The map of every vegan item at Wawa was designed by Darren Boone of A Better Visual, LLC.

Every product at Wawa is categorized as Vegetarian, Vegan, or Gluten-Free and the location on the map explains what items fall under each category. In addition, the map describes what each item is as well as where to find it at Wawa.

Testing was very important for this project. Everything Vegan started by going through locations around them to see all the vegan options they had, paying close attention to how far these products were from each other. This way, Everything Vegan would be able to present information on the vegan options at Wawa in an easy-to-follow map that’s categorized by products’ availability for visitors who are short on time or simply looking for quick snacks.
